Chambers Applies For Judge; Ghrist Moves To Feds

McLean County State's Attorney Jason Chambers.

A couple potential moves could leave the McLean County state's attorney's office without its top two administrators.

First Assistant State's Attorney Adam Ghrist is leaving for a job in the U.S. attorney's office, as part of a long sought career track. And State's Attorney Jason Chambers has applied to fill a circuit judge vacancy. Even if Chambers gets the nod, he said the prosecutor's office is in good shape.

"When I took over the office we had two prosecutors who had first chair in a murder trial. I have made it a point to make sure that we get a multitude of people with experience. And we have about four times that number of prosecutors now," said Chambers.

Chambers said he remains happy in his current job, but the timing is such that now would be a good time if the Chief Justice of the State Supreme Court were to pick him.

"I'm not tired of doing this job. I enjoy doing this job. And I feel like I still have a lot of energy to give to it. But, it was also a, you know what? If there was a time, the circumstances might fit," said Chambers.

The vacancy is being created by the midterm retirement of Judge Bob Freitag. Several other judges have announced they are stepping down or acknowledged they are considering retirement.
