Clerk Kathy Michael confirmed McLean County did not apply a tax abatement to Ellsworth Fire Protection District's taxes in 2024. It was corrected in 2025 but has led to what one official describes as financial "whiplash" for the volunteer fire department.

The McLean County Board approved a pair of facilities in the eastern part of the county that will store energy produced when demand is low, and distribute when need is high.

Desiree Robertson must serve at least half her sentence. She told jurors in February she was acting in self-defense when she shot Daniel Shelby, 41, twice in the head.
