A McLean County jury has found an Ellsworth woman guilty of second-degree murder.

Desiree Robertson, 42, fatally shot her husband, Daniel Shelby, during a domestic dispute in 2024. The incident took place at the couple's home in Ellsworth, a small town in rural McLean County about 20 miles east of Bloomington-Normal.

Robertson testified she acted in self-defense during the week-long trial, which concluded Wednesday.

Jurors had the option to convict Robertson of first-degree murder, but rejected the state's claim that Shelby's killing was premeditated.

Robertson is scheduled for sentencing on May 7.
