Police: Pedestrian Killed In I-55 Crash Near Towanda

Illinois State Police say a McLean County woman was killed when she tried to cross Interstate 55 on foot.

State Police responded to I-55 about one mile north of Towanda shortly after 4:30 p.m. Sunday.

Police said Wendy Haase, 46, of Lexington, was trying to cross the interstate when she was hit by a semi-tractor trailer that was headed north. Police said Haase died at a local hospital.

The driver of a semi was a 31-year-old man from Stevensville, Tenn. ISP said no charges have been filed, but the crash remains under investigation.
