A federal judge in Peoria has sentenced a 22-year-old Bloomington man to just under three years in prison for having a "switch" that turned a Glock pistol into a fully automatic weapon.

Hospital staff in Bloomington found the conversion device after Javares Hudson went to the emergency room when he was shot outside a nightclub in January of 2022.

At a hearing, prosecutors presented evidence that staff found Hudson had a baggie in his mouth with a piece of plastic inside and, after much protest, made him spit it out. Officers went to the ER at the same time to do a gunshot residue test on Hudson and ask him questions.

Hudson could have been sentenced to up to 10 years in prison and fined up to $250,000.
