One person is dead following a fire Monday afternoon west of Bloomington.
According to a news release from McLean County Sheriff Matt Lane, fire crews from multiple departments were called at 2:24 p.m. to a structure fire in Dry Grove Township.
Lane said a woman was found inside the residence and efforts to resuscitate her were not successful. McLean County Coroner Kathy Yoder identfied the woman as 75-year-old Janice Morris of rural Bloomington. Morris was pronounced dead at the scene.
Results of a preliminary autopsy show Morris died from carbon monoxide poisioning, a consequence of smoke inhalation.
Lane also said a sheriff’s deputy was medically evaluated for smoke inhalation.
The Danvers Fire Department was assisted by fire crews from Stanford, Carlock, Bloomington and Normal, he said.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the McLean County Sheriff’s Office, the McLean County Coroner’s Office, the State Fire Marshal’s Office and Danvers Police.
