Man sentenced to 123 years in prison for his role in Bloomington shooting

A Chicago area man has been sentenced to 123 years in prison for his involvement in a fatal shooting that occurred on Bloomington's west side in 2020.

Jaleel Johnson, a 20-year-old father and concrete laborer, was shot and killed Oct. 12, 2020, in Bloomington.

Malcolm J. Johnson, 31, of Riverdale, was convicted in May of killing 20-year-old Jaleel Johnson, who was a father and concrete worker. The shooting also resulted in injuries to two other people who were in their 20s.

Judge William Yoder handed down the sentence, according to McLean County court records.

The shooting took place Oct. 12, 2020, outside of 1605 Iowa St. in Bloomington. Johnson was convicted of murder, attempted murder, aggravated battery with a firearm, mob action, and obstruction of justice.

A co-defendant, Kevon Moon, 25, Chicago, is scheduled for sentencing on murder charges on Aug. 1. He was convicted in May of murder, mob action and other charges.

A third suspect, James Moon, 25, faces murder, mob action and other charges but has not yet been detained. Law enforcement has said previously they considered him to be armed and dangerous.
