A Bloomington man faces felony drunk driving and other charges in connection with a crash that killed a woman in Missouri.

Police in Mexico, Missouri, about two hours northwest of St. Louis, say 30-year-old Tyler Herman was arrested in Bloomington after he was released from a Columbia, Missouri hospital following the Aug. 30 crash.

Police say Herman was driving a pickup truck south when it collided with an SUV around 3:15 p.m. as Herman tried to pass other vehicles in the northbound lane of U.S. Route 54, according to witnesses. Both vehicles caught fire. The driver of the SUV, 70-year-old Mary L. Piper of Columbia, Missouri, died in the crash.

A warrant was issued for Herman’s arrest on Saturday.

The prosecuting attorney for Audrain County filed charges against Herman, including driving while intoxicated resulting in a fatality, armed criminal action and careless and imprudent driving.

A court date has not been set.
