Bloomington's city engineer is retiring.

Kevin Kothe will end his career in June after 37-years with the city. Kothe has been city engineer for 12 years and also was Public Works director for three. He started with the city in 1988.
A news release said over the years, Kothe contributed to numerous infrastructure improvements, from road design and traffic systems to advancing the city's use of Geographic Information Systems.
“I’m grateful for the opportunity to serve my hometown and make a difference in our community,” said Kothe.
The city said Kothe's work has left a lasting impact on Bloomington’s infrastructure, enhancing roads, sidewalks, and water systems while pioneering the use of technology in city planning.
“Kevin has been a pillar of our organization, leading with integrity, passion, and a clear vision for a better Bloomington. Over nearly four decades, his efforts have impacted almost every part of our city, from the roads we travel to the water systems we rely on daily,” said City Manager Jeff Jurgens.
“Kevin’s contributions have not only shaped our infrastructure but also inspired those fortunate enough to work alongside him. We are immensely grateful for his service and wish him the very best with his retirement.”
Kothe received the Illinois Government Engineer of the Year Award in 2015.
In retirement, Kothe said he plans to spend more time with his wife of 30 years, volunteer in the community, and enjoy personal projects.
He is a graduate of Bloomington High School and the University of Illinois.
