Police in Normal say they are investigating a shooting early Wednesday in which one person was hospitalized.
The department says the suspect remains at large, but detectives think the shooting was an isolated incident.
“There is no indication of an ongoing threat to the community,” Police Chief Steve Petrilli said in a statement.
Police were called to the 700 block of Hale Street just south of Kingsley Junior High School at 3:30 a.m. Wednesday for a report that someone had been struck by gunfire inside a residence.
Police say officers located the victim and assisted the Normal Fire Department in treating the victim before they were taken to the hospital. Police say the victim was later transferred to a medical facility outside the area for further treatment. Their condition is not available.
A Unit 5 spokesperson said Normal Police informed the school resource officer at Kingsley that there would be a police presence in the area as an investigation was underway and that no action was needed by the school district.
Normal Police ask anyone who may have information about the incident to contract detective Kyle McComber at (309) 433-3415 or by email at kmccomber@normalil.gov. Tips also can be submitted anonymously by texting NORMALPD to 847411 or through the Normal Police Department app.
