A traffic stop in McLean County in April 2025 turned up 284 pounds of cocaine in trash bags.

A jury has convicted a man linked to one of the largest drug seizures ever in McLean County.

30-year-old Jobanpreet Singh was found guilty of controlled substance trafficking and unlawful possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver following a jury trial in McLean County.

Illinois State Police pulled over a tractor trailer Singh was driving on April 17, 2025 for a safety inspection, according to McLean County State’s Attorney Erika Reynolds. A K-9 officer detected the presence of drugs inside. Authorities said officers found four large black garbage bags containing a substance that tested positive for cocaine.

The drugs weighed 234 pounds and had a street value of $10.6 million.

Singh told authorities he did not know about the drugs in the trailer. He claimed he had picked up two loads of produce and did not see the garbage bags when he checked the trailer previously, Reynolds said.

Authorities said a search of Singh’s cell phone included vague communication about hauling loads across the country for $5,400. Reynolds said the communications suggest that Singh was a drug mule.

Singh is scheduled to be sentenced on May 28 by Circuit Judge William Yoder. He’s eligible to receive 30-120 years in prison.
