A 36-year-old Dixon man died as the result of a single car crash early Wednesday morning near the Interstate 39 and Interstate 55 interchange.

McLean County Coroner Kathy Yoder said Thomas D. Rockwood was pronounced dead at 5:30 a.m. on July 1 at Carle Bromenn Medical Center.

According to Illinois State Police [ISP], Rockwood was the only person inside the Nissan Pathfinder when it crashed into a tree off northbound I-39 a mile north of the interchange at around 4:25 a.m. that same day. That's near Northtown Road in Normal Township.

ISP could not confirm what caused the car to veer off the road. A toxicology test is pending, as is required by state law in the case of fatal accidents.
