As Saint Patrick's Day approaches, a watering hole in Uptown Normal has made a list of the top Irish pubs in the nation.
Foursquare reports Maggie Miley's Irish Pub came in at 19 on the top 25 based on users likes, saves, tip sentiment, and its "proprietary hotness" score. Maggie Miley's owner Tyler Holloway said he's pleased.
"To have a true Irish pub, you got to have Irish dishes. And you're supposed to have a local tie-in. In Ireland, a lot of them are called 'the local.' They have different names but everyone says, 'hey, I'm going to the local,'" Holloway said.
The bar was designed by a company from Dublin, Ireland and milled by Irish carpenters. General Manager Peter Connolly grew up in Dublin. Holloway said Connolly went through the pub-tenders apprenticeship program.
Tops on the list is McSorley's Old Ale House, which is the oldest bar in New York City.
