The Town of Normal is preparing the next phase of its plan to relocate its fire stations.
Town Council members Monday evening could authorize buying nearly 2 acres of land at Hershey and Shepard Roads. The price tag is $450,000.
A station on Hershey would replace the current College Avenue fire station and potentially improve response times to calls east of Veterans Parkway.
Staff has also raised the possibility a fire station on Hershey Road could encourage continued development of the Blackstone Trails subdivision. The denser housing and infill would be in line with the town's comprehensive plan.
This would be phase two of the plan developed five years ago to reposition all three fire stations based on development patterns. Another fire station has already been relocated to Main Street.
The owners of the Blackstone Trail subdivision are also asking the town to delay collection of $189,000 in development fees for the subdivision as part of the deal. The proposal calls for the owner to pay the fees as late as 2029.
