Mayor Chris Koos has called for diligent observance of coronavirus precautions by business owners.

Mayor Chris Koos of Normal said the town will enforce the restaurant and bar closure ordered by the governor because of the coronavirus.

Some business owners in other parts of the country have ignored shutdown orders.

"This is serious and if we find people disregarding that, we should enforce it," said Koos.

Koos said the town will not tolerate establishments flouting the executive order from Gov. J.B. Pritzker.

"Well, I think it (enforcement) looks like how we respond to issues of police intervention, inspections intervention. We meet with a business owner and explain that this needs to be done. This is currently the law, and enforce that law," said Koos.

Koos said he does not foresee layoffs of Town of Normal workers because of the economic hit the country is taking.

He said he hopes everyone stays upbeat and follows the safety requests issued by public health officials.
