One Earth Energy has downsized its carbon capture plans, reducing the number of wells from three to one. Area residents say they're still seeking more information about the firm's safety measures.

The three wells to be used for carbon sequestration are just inside the eastern border of McLean County and about 5 miles west of Gibson City. Environmental advocates say that's too close to a fresh water source which replenishes the Mahomet Aquifer.

OSHA said Alliance Grain Co. violated safety standards by not properly guarding a sump hole, contributing to a seasonal laborer becoming injured. Alliance has not yet responded to the penalties, which total $276,407. The company said it's reviewing the citations.
