The McLean County Coroner said the woman who died in a Saybrook house fire was 72-year old Carol Purcell of Saybrook. An autopsy showed the preliminary cause of death was smoke inhalation and carbon monoxide.
Several rural fire departments responded to the fire alarm on Oak Street in Saybrook Friday afternoon. After the fire was out, authorities were able to see a person inside the residence. Purcell was pronounced dead at the scene.
