Bloomington man drowns after vehicle leaves Interstate 55 and ends up in pond

The McLean County coroner said a 60-year-old man from Bloomington drowned Monday night when his vehicle left Interstate 55 and ended up in a pond.

State Police troopers who were first on the scene went into the Boyd Wesley Park Pond in Towanda, but could not find anyone. Coroner Kathy Yoder said the Hudson Fire Department dive team later attached a cable to a submerged vehicle and retrieved the body of Rick Plourde.

He was pronounced dead at 11:37 p.m. Toxicology tests are pending and the incident remains under investigation.
