Corporation Counsel Brian Day is taking on additional responsibilities with the Town of Normal.

The Town of Normal is making interim appointments to adjust for a vacancy in the assistant city manager's post, with City Manager Pam Reece temporarily appointing corporation counsel Brian Day to that role.

Day has served as the town’s top lawyer since 2014. Before that, Day was the lead staff attorney for the Illinois Municipal League from 2008 to 2014. The league is a statewide association and Day advised city, town, and village attorneys across the state on matters of municipal law.

From 2001 to 2008, Day was a staff attorney for the Illinois Legislative Reference Bureau, an Illinois General Assembly agency responsible for drafting legislation that goes before the state legislature. In this role, Day drafted tax and local-government legislation.

Deputy Corporation Counsel Jason Querciagrossa takes over for Day in the legal department. Finance Director Andrew Huhn picks up economic development responsibilities.

“The Town of Normal is fortunate to have extremely qualified individuals on its leadership team who can step into these interim roles,” says Reece. “A comprehensive search for the next assistant city manager will take some time, and I don’t want to rush the process. These leaders will provide stability and continuity during the transition.”

A search for a new assistant city manager will launch next year and could take up to nine months.

Former Assistant City Manager Eric Hansen has left town government to become city manager of Galesburg.
