A third person has died from their injuries in a traffic crash outside Cooksville on Sunday.
Several agencies responded to the collision of an SUV and minivan at Illinois 9 and 2600 East Road in rural Cooksville, east of Bloomington-Normal. It’s commonly known as the LeRoy-Lexington Blacktop.
An 86-year-old man from Millbrae, California was a front seat occupant in the minivan and was taken to the hospital for his injuries. He was pronounced dead at 1:49 p.m. Tuesday at Carle BroMenn Medical Center.
Beth Brucker, 58, of Ellsworth, was the driver of the SUV and Hui-Lan Chen Chiang, 82, of also of Millbrae, California, was a rear occupant in the passenger van.
After both being pronounced dead at the site of the crash, McLean County Coroner Kathleen Yoder said preliminary autopsies indicate they both died from multiple injuries. Toxicology tests are pending.
The coroner’s office received notification of the initial fatalities at the scene around 3:27 p.m. The McLean County Sherriff’s Office, Illinois State Police, Ellsworth Fire, Cooksville Fire, LeRoy Ambulance, Gibson Area EMS and Bloomington Fire Departments already were there.
The incident and cause of the collision remain under investigation by the McLean County Coroner’s Office and the Illinois State Police.
