A former Bloomington man exonerated of murder charges is entitled to a jury trial on his claims that three retired Normal police officers played a significant role in his wrongful conviction, according to arguments by his lawyers Wednesday to the Fourth District Appellate Court.

On Friday police arrested a longtime first-grade teacher at Glenn Elementary School in Unit 5 for allegedly molesting female students. Unit 5 pulled the teacher, Jonathan Hovey, from class back in April when the district learned of a new allegation.

Police have arrested a man and a woman in Normal in connection with two recent Bloomington shootings. Two juvenile boys were wounded in shootings last Thursday and Friday on Peach and Lee streets.

A former TV hunting show host from East Peoria has admitted poaching and smuggling a deer. Federal prosecutors said forty-one-year-old Christopher Brackett used to host "Fear No Evil" on the Outdoor Channel. Brackett admitted killing two bucks in Indiana in 2013 within minutes of each other when state rules said he could only take one in a season.

Prosecutors in the January death of an 8-year-old girl from Normal point to a consistent pattern of abuse under the eye of Illinois’ Department of Children and Family Services.

Cynthia Marie Baker, also known as Cynthia Clay, was arrested on a warrant earlier this week for charges of murder, aggravated domestic battery, and domestic battery of a child in connection with the girl’s death.

Gunfire claimed the life of one man in Bloomington on Tuesday night. Two others are in critical condition at area hospitals.

Bloomington Police say Nathanial Caldwell, 26, was found in the 1200 block of Orchard Drive with a gunshot wound after they were called around 9:50 p.m. Tuesday for a report of shots fired. He is currently listed in critical condition at an area hospital.

Friends and neighbors of two slain young people in Bloomington said they just do not understand how it came to this.

Bloomington police said they found a man and a woman dead from gunshot wounds overnight Sunday.

After reports of multiple gunshots about 1:09 a.m., officers went to the area of 1221 Orchard Street and found the victims. Two other people had also been shot. Officers said they had non-life threatening injuries and were taken to area hospitals.
