A bicyclist has died several weeks after being struck by a pickup truck in Bloomington in late August. It was one of two fatal bicycle crashes within three days in McLean County.

Illinois State Police responded to the crash on the morning of Aug. 25 along U.S. 150 near Evans Junior High School in southeast Bloomington.

According to a police report, a New Jersey couple was riding their bicycles on the right shoulder of U.S. 150 while traveling west, when a westbound pickup truck driver hit both bicyclists about 10:41 a.m. just east of North 1750 East Road.

Joel Goodman, 69, and his wife Jennifer Goodman, 67, both from Allentown, were hospitalized, according to police. Joel Goodman died on Sept. 11, according to his obituary. Jennifer Goodman's condition is not known.

The pickup driver, Michael Miller, 72, of LeRoy, was given a ticket for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, according to police.

The two crashes prompted calls from bicycle safety advocates to take time to understand the rules of the road when bicyclists share the road with motor vehicles.
